Role Overview

As part of an enhanced network of care for major trauma patients in Scotland, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) has been identified as one of four major trauma centres. We are seeking experienced peri operative staff with expert peri operative skills to support the development of the Adult Theatres at QEUH. The ideal candidate will be a First Level Registered Nurse trained in general nursing or adult nursing, or a Registered Operating Department Practitioner, with desirable experience in theatre, anaesthetics and/or recovery.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • This is a permanent, full time post of 36 hours per week.
  • The role is based at L02 Theatres, QEUH, 1345 Govan Road, G51 4TF.
  • Flexibility is required, working within a seven day service that includes out of hours duty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinically, assess patient needs and plan, implement and evaluate person centred care programmes, utilising all available resources and involving the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC/HPC guidelines.
  • Practice within the legal and ethical framework established by the Nursing & Midwifery Council, Health Professions Council and National Legislation, ensuring patient interests and well being are met.
  • Work within NHS, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Health & Safety Executive legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing by providing transparent, inclusive information that enables decision making.
  • Respect confidential information and disclose only when required by law or court order, or for public interest.

Qualifications and Experience Essential

  • First Level Registered Nurse on NMC register (Part 1, 7 and 12), or
  • Registered Operating Department Practitioner on HPC register.
  • Ability to work shift duty, including nights and public holidays.
  • Willingness to work at any site within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde when required.

Desirable

  • Recent experience within an operating theatre or immediate postoperative recovery room environment (including HDU).
  • Post registration qualification relevant to peri operative care.
