The role

We have a vacancy for Band 6 Therapy Radiographers within the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. The post-holder will be responsible for accurate planning, calculation and delivery of radiation treatment, and for maintaining accurate records for each patient. The role requires rotation through specialist areas such as pre treatment, CT simulator and all treatment machines of the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, providing a highly specialised clinical service to patients suffering from cancer. With supervision from the Band 7 radiographer, the post holder will assist in the day to day operation of a treatment unit, CT simulator or other area of the department, and will manage the area during breaks, meetings, etc.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Location based in Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre
  • Full time position (36 hours per week)
  • Permanent contract
  • Shift pattern: Monday Friday, 08 00

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with and contribute to statutory, divisional and departmental policies, procedures, rules, regulations and protocols with respect to patient care and safety, including IR(ME)R 2000, IRR99 and local rules for radiation safety.
  • Control access to radiation controlled areas to ensure the safety of patients, carers, visitors and staff.
  • Recognise the significance of the Departmental Quality System (QART) and IR(ME)R regulations, and assist with development of written procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure that any complaint is referred to the appropriate authority.
  • Work in the designated area to ensure efficient throughput of patients.
  • Supervise more junior staff and colleagues and delegate workload when necessary.
  • Maintain safe and efficient use of equipment and electronic programmes in the designated area; take timely and appropriate action to resolve faults or problems.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

  • State registration with HCPC as a therapy radiographer is mandatory.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IR(ME)R (Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations).
  • In depth knowledge and experience of all modules of the ARIA radiotherapy system.
  • Successful completion of competency programme signed off by a Band 7 radiographer in specialist areas such as image review, CT, virtual simulation and advantage windows.
  • Knowledge and experience of BWoSCC clinical protocols and radiation physics planning techniques.
  • Demonstration of a high degree of competency and experience in all areas of radiotherapy.
  • Leadership skills; the ability to act in a supervisory capacity.
  • Continuous professional development: ongoing specialist clinical and technical skill development maintained in a CPD portfolio as required by HCPC.
