Job Overview

We are recruiting six relief workers for the Complex Autism Service in Cowdenbeath. The role is part of a Complex Care Service supporting adults with autism and complex behaviours. Relief workers operate on a zero hour basis, selecting shifts that suit them while ensuring safe, consistent support for people with complex needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
  • Use clear communication, structure and consistency to help individuals manage anxiety and navigate daily challenges.
  • Deliver essential daily living skills such as personal care, cooking, shopping, attending appointments and managing medication.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to person centred support plans.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and apply Physical Intervention and Escape Techniques training.
  • Roll out social inclusion and community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive team culture and promote social inclusion.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and a genuine team focus.
  • Ability to remain calm, think clearly and stay solution focused in challenging situations.
  • Basic IT and literacy skills, with a positive attitude and clear commitment to delivering high quality, person centred support.
  • Physical ability to undertake Physical Intervention and Escape Techniques training.
  • Experience working in structured settings, managing risk, or operating under pressure is ideal.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Working Pattern and Salary

Contract Type: Casual; 0 hours per week, as and when required. Salary: FC4 £26,786.83 – £29,170.80 pro rata.

Regulatory Requirements

Register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of taking up employment. Obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland before appointment. Achievement of the Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 6 (SVQ2) or equivalent within the initial registration period will be supported to meet SSSC requirements.
