Senior Associate, Financial Lines Insurance

Location: Edinburgh

The Team

Our Financial Lines Insurance team specialises in the defence of professional indemnity claims across a broad spectrum of sectors, acting for global consultants, insurers and their policyholders. The team handles a diverse portfolio of work with a focus on complex and high value claims against professionals in the construction, accountancy and financial services sectors. We also regularly advise on policy coverage and litigate policy coverage disputes, combining technical excellence with a commercial, solutions focused approach to support clients through complex and often reputationally sensitive disputes.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join our Financial Lines insurance practice in Edinburgh. This role will involve advising insurers and professionals on complex, high value, and often multi jurisdictional disputes. You will work as part of a collaborative team defending claims against a wide range of professionals, while contributing to the continued growth and strategic development of the practice in Scotland and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of professional indemnity and financial disputes, from pre action through to resolution.
  • Advise insurers and insured clients on coverage and liability issues.
  • Handle complex, high value claims and multi party litigation.
  • Draft pleadings, reports and client advice.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Supervise and mentor junior lawyers.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and the growth of the Edinburgh practice.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor in Scotland (or dual qualified), with a minimum of 4 years PQE.
  • Strong background in professional indemnity and/or insurance litigation; commercial litigation experience will also be considered.
  • Experience defending claims involving financial services, brokers, accountants or construction professionals is highly desirable.
  • Excellent technical legal skills and commercial awareness.
  • Proven ability to manage complex disputes independently.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills.
  • A collaborative team player with a proactive approach.
