JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and is looking for experienced PAT Engineers with equipment and insurance in place. If you are self employed or considering becoming self employed, we want to hear from you.

Our onboarding begins with a friendly conversation. All engineers must have their own insurance and have their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, we provide an engineer handbook, contract for services, branded clothing, labels and technical support.

Job Description

We offer self employed positions with flexible hours and the option to work part time or full time.

This role involves performing portable appliance testing (PAT) across a variety of sites such as hospitals and retail outlets, recording results in a dedicated test report or electronic system, and providing employers with copies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Testing a range of appliances (microwaves, kettles, computers, etc.) using appropriate instruments
  • Recording findings and completing necessary paperwork, such as completion certificates and checklists
  • Informing users of test results and explaining why appliances may be unfit for use
  • Maintaining equipment in good working order and complying with regulations

To succeed, you must be reliable, honest, and have a can do attitude. All equipment, including testers, measuring devices, and tools, must be kept up to date.

A typical day of a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Engineer

As a PAT engineer, each day brings new challenges. You will start by packing your tools into a van, travel to the first site, conduct tests, record results, and repeat the process for multiple jobs throughout the day.

Your work will be physically and mentally demanding, requiring organisation and accuracy. If you enjoy variety and the chance to keep workplaces safe, this role may be for you.
