Job Description

Position

Biomedical Scientist 1 (Band 5)/ Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6 – AfC Annex 20) – 1 permanent post, 2 fixed term (11 months)

Location & Working Hours

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Medical Microbiology Department – 37 hours per week.

Role Overview

The Microbiology Department provides a comprehensive diagnostic microbiology (including virology) service to NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland. The post holder will manage and perform a full range of diagnostic procedures, participate in mandatory CPD activities, and progress towards the IBMS Specialist qualification.

Essential Qualifications

  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • BSc (Honours) in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) leading to HCPC registration.
  • Experience in diagnostic microbiology and familiarity with ISO 15189 standards.

Additional Information

  • The department is a training laboratory registered by HCPC and IBMS.
  • UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 standard.
