Rural Emergency Practitioner (Specialist Grade)
Specialist Grade Salary £100,870 – £111,441
Plus £1,461 Distant Islands Allowance per annum
10 Programmed Activities per week (LTFT applicants welcome)

Essential Duties
- Work as part of a team of 6 Specialist and Specialty doctors on a rota of 12 to 12.5 hour day and night shifts in the Emergency Department.
- Manage the full spectrum of acute presentations across all age groups, providing safe and timely decision making.
- Collaborate with retrieval services and secondary/tertiary centres when advanced care is required.
- Coordinate with a support structure that includes resident doctors when the department is busy, Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENP) during day shifts, and an on call team of Consultant Anaesthetist, Surgeon, Medical Consultant, Obstetrician and Paediatrician at night.
- Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and qualities required to work in Emergency Medicine and manage risk in collaboration with hospital teams.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, for example through a Credential in Remote and Rural Health.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Commitment to the values of NHS Scotland, with a demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity.
- Medical registration and fitness to practise in the UK.
- Experience in Emergency Medicine or a related specialty, with evidence of competency in managing acute presentations.
- Ability to work independently as the sole doctor in a remote and rural Emergency Department during night shifts.
- Registration with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme) is required.
- Knowledge of and ability to collaborate with retrieval services and secondary/tertiary care centres.
- Commitment to the development of remote and rural health practice.
