The Role

We are seeking an Assistant Practitioner to support our AHP Team in OPSS at RAH. This role is to support the Specialist Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist within the Team. The post holder will be delegated appropriate tasks by professionally qualified Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy team members, working under their guidance in undertaking both clinical and non-clinical tasks.

It is expected that the assistant will work independently with patients, within the agreed parameters of a defined intervention plan. Training, supervision and support will be provided to enable the assistant to work within their agreed competence levels.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Location based in Royal Alexandra Hospital
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full time position (36 hours per week)
  • Shift Pattern for this post are 5/7 days

Key Responsibilities

The Post holder will carry their own caseload with appropriate guidelines from senior staff.

The Assistant practitioner will plan, undertake a range of interventions and treatment plans in line with the patient’s goals to facilitate safe and efficient discharge planning. This will involve undertaking a range of identified assessments e.g. mobility assessments, balance assessments, walking aid provision, home exercise provision, potential for exercise classes as well as identifying and referring for appropriate services and equipment at home.

The assistant practitioner will also undertake required departmental duties and support the efficient running of the department.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required

  • HNC Social/Health Care or HNC Occupational Therapy Support or SVQ 2-3
  • Previous and significant experience as Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant
  • The Post holder will provide evidence of previous learning and development at HNC or SVQ 3 in Health and Social Care, OT Support or Clinical Support
  • Ability to work single handed with individuals/groups within a supportive environment
  • Accurate and effective observation skills, which can be readily translated by good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to deliver interventions as delegated by professional staff
  • Basic numeric and literacy, with good personal organization skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of professional conduct
  • Health/safety and risk awareness
