About the Service
The NHS Fife Pharmacy & Medicines Service serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by an integrated team of around 200 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Staff, Nurses, and Administrators. The team works across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.
Job Overview
To support delivery of our medicines supply service, we are looking for support staff to work in our Pharmacy Stores. No pharmacy experience is necessary as full training will be provided. You will be based at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy but will also work at Queen Margaret Hospital Pharmacy Departments. Variable shifts between 08:00-18:00 Monday to Friday are required, and you will participate in a weekend and public holiday rota.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the assembly of medicine orders and over labeling of medicines.
- Process receipt of goods from suppliers and maintain store stock.
- Prepare ward orders, support ward top ups, and answer the telephone.
- Perform computer work and reception duties.
- Physically lift and handle medicines, including infusion boxes, and spend most of the day on your feet.
Qualifications & Requirements
- No previous pharmacy experience required; full training will be provided.
- Physically able to lift and handle medicines, including infusion boxes.
- Prior to appointment, you must become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
- You must have the right to work in the United Kingdom (including visa or settled status) or be eligible for sponsorship.
Working Hours & Conditions
Work is scheduled in variable shifts between 08:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Friday. Weekend and public holiday shifts are part of the rota. From 1/4/26 the Agenda for Change full time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours per week, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate so that pay is not affected.
