About Ward 31
Ward 31 is a 23 bedded, dedicated fracture neck of femur ward and the only ward of its kind in Scotland. It is a busy and forward-thinking ward within a diverse directorate, working collaboratively across the Orthopaedic Department.
The patient population is predominantly frail and elderly, many experiencing delirium, dementia and a range of acute medical conditions alongside complex orthopaedic needs. Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment is essential to supporting high-quality, compassionate and person-centred care.
Role Overview
The Ward Housekeeper plays a vital role within the ward team, supporting patient care through high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control, meal service support and stock management. The role contributes significantly to patient comfort, dignity and safety, particularly for our vulnerable patient group.
Successful applicants will join a friendly, motivated and supportive multidisciplinary team who work closely together to ensure the smooth running of the ward. The team includes nursing staff, medical staff, therapists and support services, all committed to delivering the highest standards of care.

Part-time with salary pro-rata. Prior to appointment a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience or genuine interest in delivering person-centred care, particularly for patients living with dementia or delirium.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate resilience in a busy acute ward environment.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection prevention within a ward environment, in line with NHS policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including the correct use of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.
- Experience working in a healthcare, care or similar environment desirable.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a busy ward setting.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with nursing staff, patients and visitors.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, including manual handling and COSHH.
- Reliable, flexible and able to adapt to changing ward needs.
