Environment Protection Officer – Landfill Regulation Team (Full Time, Edinburgh)

The Landfill Regulation Team is a multi-disciplinary team which oversees the whole regulatory life cycle at landfills including permitting, compliance and enforcement, as well as developing guidance and influencing policy. This position offers experience in air, waste and water pollution control.

Responsibilities

  • Lead regulator for several operational and closed landfill sites across Edinburgh, undertaking routine tasks independently including site inspections, desk-based assessments of reports, responding to pollution incidents, determining permit applications and taking enforcement action when necessary.
  • Contribute to project work within the team, including specific themed audits and guidance development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant experience or qualification equivalent to a minimum HND / SCQF Level 8-10.
  • Technical knowledge/experience of enforcement and/or environmental regulation in a relevant area.
  • Ability to provide advice and guide others on the resolution of issues and proven problem-solving capability.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policy and give detailed guidance, advice or information to others.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships with operators and individuals.
