Cleaning Operative at City of Edinburgh Council

Salary: £26,205 – £26,525 (pro-rata for part time and sessional)

Hours: 10 per week, 40 weeks sessional

Role Overview

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of our Facilities Management team, delivering vital cleaning services across our estate to ensure properties are safe and clean places to work or learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Empty litter and recycling bins
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers, and replenish washroom consumables
  • Provide emergency and re active cleaning as required (e.g., removal of graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages)
  • Maintain and care for cleaning equipment
  • Support cleaning tasks across other buildings when required
  • Deliver cleaning according to the specification and cooperate with performance measurement to meet agreed standards

Key Holding and Security

  • Act as a key holder to enable opening and closing of buildings
  • Operate security alarm systems when opening a building
  • Close accessible windows and doors, switch off lights and ensure premises are left safe and secure when closing

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 – you will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check
  • Overseas Criminal Record Check if you have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years
  • Ability to comply with pre employment checks (PVG and overseas record)
