Position Overview
Pre Registration Supernumerary Clinical Scientist Trainee – Molecular Pathology (Genomics) (NHS Lothian). Fixed term for 3 years, 36 hours per week. Band 6 – Salary Range: £43,231 to £52,679 per annum. Location: Edinburgh; laboratory operations are currently based between the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital, with a planned move to Lauriston site in 2027/28.
Responsibilities
- Receive comprehensive training in laboratory techniques including PCR, Sanger sequencing, RT PCR and next generation sequencing (NGS).
- Learn to analyse and report a broad range of molecular pathology results.
- Participate in the development of new diagnostic tests.
- Conduct technical and clinical audits and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Build a portfolio of evidence for assessment and subsequent registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist.
Qualifications
- First or Upper Second-Class BSc Honours Degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology or an associated life science subject.
- Eligibility to enter the NHS Scotland postgraduate training scheme for Molecular Pathology (Genomics).
- Willful readiness to commence training in September 2026.
