Job Description

Teacher of Computing

The Computing department has two teachers and is very well resourced, with a dedicated suite at the heart of the Senior School and a wide range of physical computing kit including Raspberry Pis, micro:bits, Cutebots and drones. All pupils study Computing in S1 and S2, with two periods per week, and the subject is offered at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher in the senior phase. Computing is also taught in the Junior School to ensure a smooth transition.

TEACHER OF COMPUTING – fixed term, part time post from August 2026 (0.4 FTE until June 2027)

The successful candidate for this post will be confident teaching Computing at all levels up to and including Advanced Higher.

Across S1 and S2, pupils experience a broad curriculum spanning programming, web design, graphics, computer systems, data science, cloud computing, accessibility, cyber security and artificial intelligence. The curriculum is reviewed and refreshed regularly so that what pupils learn keeps pace with the real world, and computational thinking sits at the core of everything we teach, from S1 through to Advanced Higher.

Pupils work with block-based coding in S1 before moving on to Python, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript as they progress through the school. The department prides itself on outstanding SQA results, but equally important to us is fostering genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for all things Computing.

Staff are encouraged to develop lessons that will inspire and motivate pupils to reach their full potential. We would look to the successful candidate to pursue a variety of pedagogical approaches in class and develop resources to support lessons and courses. St Aloysius’ College also encourages staff to take advantage of continuous life long professional learning opportunities to update their skills and improve their knowledge.
