Job Description
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Support Worker (Higher Level) to join our Diagnostic Clinical Microbiology service. This is a key role supporting the delivery of a high quality laboratory service across our acute sites. You will work as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing directly to patient care and safety. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Shift pattern across 7 days of the week
- Inclusive of weekends public holidays
Key responsibilities:
- Collect, prepare and process clinical specimens in line with standard operating procedures
- Register accurate patient and specimen information on laboratory IT systems
- Support Biomedical Scientists in the provision of an effective diagnostic laboratory service
- Load, operate and monitor laboratory analysers and equipment as required
- Maintain laboratory standards for health and safety infection control and waste disposal
- Respond to telephone and reception enquiries from clinical staff and service users
- Assist with training and mentoring of new or less experienced staff
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Three Highers at grade C or above including Biology or Chemistry and Maths or equivalent qualification
- SVQ Level 3 in a relevant science subject or completion of a modern apprenticeship in life sciences
- Good understanding of biomedical science principles and laboratory practice
- Strong keyboard skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Awareness of health and safety and infection control practices
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast paced environment
- Manual dexterity and the ability to handle laboratory equipment and specimens safely
