The College is Jesuit and Catholic and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds who share our commitment to educational excellence and the formation of young people in service of others.

We are a highly diverse independent school educating pupils from ages 3 to 18 across Junior and Senior Schools. The College has a tradition of academic excellence with results among the highest in Scotland. The campus includes the Hanson Building (1859), the Clavius Science Centre, and an £8 million sports complex.

As a member of HMC and part of a global Jesuit network educating over 2.5 million students, the College offers opportunities for professional collaboration, development and international engagement.

The College seeks to form happy, kind, and generous young people ready to serve others, following the example of Jesus.

Chemistry

Chemistry is an exceptional department within the College, consistently achieving outstanding results and popular with students and parents. Uptake is strong at all levels through to Advanced Higher. There are currently eight teachers and two technicians housed in nine modern labs within our Clavius building.

Role: Teacher of Chemistry

Fixed term, part time post from August 2026 (0.5 FTE until June 2027).

The successful candidate will be confident teaching Chemistry at all levels up to and including Higher. The three sciences are taught discretely in S1 and S2, so experience teaching the other sciences at this level is highly desired. Being able to teach Biology at certificate level would help with flexibility.

The department is dynamic, innovative and progressive, fostering an atmosphere of achievement, enjoyment and success. The department prides itself on outstanding SQA results while fostering an enthusiasm for science among younger students.

Staff are encouraged to develop lessons that inspire and motivate pupils to reach their full potential. The successful candidate should pursue a variety of pedagogical approaches and develop resources to support lessons and courses. The College also encourages continuous lifelong professional learning opportunities to update skills and knowledge.

Application & Selection Process
