The role
The Community Respiratory Team is a dynamic and responsive multidisciplinary team (MDT) that supports patients with moderate to severe COPD within Glasgow City in their own homes. The team includes Physiotherapists, Nurses, OT, Pharmacist, Rehabilitation Support Worker, Business Support and Leadership roles. The post holder will work as a specialist respiratory nurse within the on call team, supporting more junior staff with supervision and TURAS. The role requires being able to work independently, using clinical judgement for patient prioritisation and management, and to collaborate with the Respiratory Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team, Pulmonary Rehabilitation team and Consultants.
Duration, location and working pattern
- Full time post (36 hours per week) and part time post (22 hours per week).
- Salary will be pro rata for part time posts.
- Shift pattern: Monday – Friday 08:30 – 16:30, with potential for future weekend work.
- Based at Woodside Health and Care Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake and provide clinical leadership assessment of patient needs, and implement and evaluate evidence based programmes of care.
- Act as a specialist resource for clinical management of patients.
- Serve as a role model through professional leadership and demonstration of competent practice.
- Act as an effective change agent, integrating research and audit into clinical practice.
- Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and experience required
Essential
- Registered Nurse (First Level) with relevant post registration experience.
- Respiratory or relevant clinical experience.
- Ability to complete the agreed training pathway to develop CNS role.
- Experience working with patient/user/carer groups or ability to relate to them.
- Skills to communicate learning on an interpersonal level and in presentations.
- Flexible approach suitable for a national programme while delivering a local service.
- Willingness to travel to regional and national events.
- Car driver licence.
Desirable
- Appropriate post registration qualification.
