The role
We are looking to recruit a band 5 registered nurse into the Vale of Leven Surgical day bed unit within the day surgery theatre complex at the Vale of Leven.
The successful candidate will join a well established professional team, providing patient centred care to those accessing the same day surgical unit. The unit comprises an admission and discharge suite, a theatre complex and an endoscopy unit and successful candidates will be expected to work fluidly throughout this service. The department benefits from an education team who can provide support and guidance, as whilst previous experience within a similar setting is advantageous this is not essential as full training will be provided.
You will hold a valid NMC pin, and be able to demonstrate continuing professional development.
The unit works on a Monday to Friday basis with closing hours of 20:00.

Key responsibilities
- To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of person centred care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
- Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
- Practice within the legal & ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
- Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
- Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
- Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.
- Complete clinical appraisal of pre registration nurses and health care support staff.
- Participate in performance appraisal in line with policy.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- First/Second Level Registered Nurse / ODP with the ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part time working hours will be reduced on a pro rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
