Job Description
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role:
To facilitate an efficient and effective transport service throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
To assist in the monitoring of the above service, making sure that all transport rules and regulations are adhered to. Schedules are delivered on a daily basis, adequate drivers in place to cover tasks, management of fleet and recording of relevant information.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Permanent Contract
- Full time post (37 hours per week) (Will need to be “On Call”)
- Shift Pattern for this post are Monday to Friday with hours between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs
Key responsibilities:
- Supervise the collection and delivery of all schedules and complete the necessary paperwork if there are any non conformances.
- Supervise and deploy the staff so that all tasks are completed in the most efficient and safe manner.
- Rectify any day to day problems using own initiative and experience.
- Ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained.
- Maintain that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Compilation of duty rotas, allocation of annual leave and public holidays.
- Ensure that all staff is trained in all tasks that are performed in the department.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Must be qualified to drive 3.5 ton vehicles.
- Knowledge of transport rules and regulations.
- Supervisory and management experience.
- Defect reporting systems.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part time working hours will be reduced on a pro rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
