Graduate Town Planner Assistant Town Planner

Location: East Lothian, Scotland

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading renewable energy provider in their search for a Graduate Town Planner.

The Company

Our client is at the forefront of renewable gas infrastructure, currently delivering a major anaerobic digestion (AD) project due for completion in 2025. Once operational, the facility will produce enough green gas to supply thousands of local homes, playing a key role in Scotland’s transition toward a low carbon future.

The project is jointly backed by two highly respected organisations:

A specialist renewable energy developer With over 14 years’ experience, the project development partner provides a fully funded solution from feasibility and planning through to capital investment. They are recognised as one of the most experienced developers in the UK & Ireland’s renewable gas market.

The Role

As a Graduate Town Planner, you will support the planning and development process for a nationally significant renewable energy scheme. You will work closely with experienced planners, project managers and technical consultants, gaining hands on exposure to all stages of the planning lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, coordination and submission of planning applications
  • Support engagement with local authorities, statutory consultees, and community stakeholders
  • Conduct planning policy research and help prepare planning statements and reports
  • Monitor project progress and help ensure compliance with planning conditions
  • Collaborate with environmental, engineering and legal teams to support project delivery
  • Contribute to long term strategic planning across the wider renewable energy portfolio

Requirements

  • Degree in Town Planning or related discipline (RTPI accredited desirable)
  • Strong research, writing and analytical skills
  • Interest in renewable energy, infrastructure and sustainable development
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Keen to progress toward RTPI chartership
