Grade UE02: £22,995 to £23,028 per annum

Student Recruitment and Admissions / USG

Part time: Guaranteed Hours contract (10 hours per annum)

Fixed Term: Length of studies

We are looking for enthusiastic Undergraduate Student Ambassadors to share your authentic experience with prospective students and their supporters.

To ensure representation across the University’s academic programmes and to complement our current pool of ambassadors, we are recruiting Undergraduate Student Ambassadors from particular schools and subject areas within them.

Joint degrees: In general, the subject that comes first in the title of a joint degree is in the school that that joint degree is based in. There are exceptions to this such as Philosophy and Theology (MA) which is based in the School of Divinity not in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. For joint degrees we strongly recommend checking our recruitment website to see a full list of accepted degree programmes before you apply.

Generally, we are recruiting students who fit the following:

• College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science (CAHSS):

School of Divinity – All undergraduate MA programmes based in the school.

School of Economics – All undergraduate programmes based in the school.

School of History, Classics and Archaeology – All undergraduate programmes based in the school that include subjects from Classics and Archaeology.

School of Law – All undergraduate LLB programmes, students studying Global Law (LLB) are particularly encouraged to apply as this is a new programme so we currently have no Ambassadors from this programme.

School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures – All undergraduate programmes in Chinese, Japanese, European languages, Arabic and Persian, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, Celtic, Scottish Ethnology and Scottish Studies.

School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences – All undergraduate programmes based in the school that include Linguistics, English Language or Cognitive Science (Humanities).

School of Social and Political Science – All undergraduate programmes based in the school.

• College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM):

Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies – All undergraduate BVMS programmes, this includes those intercalating in other schools from a BVMS programme.

• College of Science and Engineering (CSE):

School of Biological Sciences – All programmes based in the school except those intercalating from MBChB Medicine programmes.

School of Engineering – All programmes based in the school that include Chemical, Civil and Structural, or Mechanical Engineering. The general Engineering (BEng/MEng) programme is also accepted if you plan to move on to one these programmes in your second year.

School of GeoSciences – All programmes based within the school except joint degrees that are Geography and a subject based in another school as we have enough representation from these programmes.

School of Mathematics – All undergraduate programmes based in the school.

School of Physics and Astronomy – All undergraduate programmes based in the school.

Being a Student Ambassador is a great way to get involved at the University, have fun and gain valuable skills. You’re also helping prospective students learn why the University of Edinburgh is a great place to study.

Ambassadors will have opportunities to represent the University, their School and the student body to internal and external audiences. The work is always varied but will primarily involve opportunities to lead campus tours, on-campus and online events, peer-to-peer text chat, and student panels. As well as other activities that arise throughout the year. Ambassadors will receive specific training to support the activity that is expected of them.

The work is also flexible around your studies – there are no set hours per week or month. Whilst this work cannot offer a frequent income, it does offer valuable work experience. The pay rate for this role is £12.60 per hour. As the work is ad-hoc an increment of 18.1% is applied to cover holiday pay (£2.28).

Key dates to note

The closing date for applications is Monday 24 th March.

Interviews will be held w/c Monday 21 st April – If you are successful to interview you will be given the opportunity to select a range of interview dates and times that would suit you. If you do not complete this by the deadline given at that time, we will not be able to progress your application.

Training will be conducted on campus on Friday May 23 rd, 2025 (depending on demand), for those interested in working during the summer vacation. This is a full-day paid training session. There will also be additional training required in addition to the full days training. Student Ambassador training is mandatory.

About the Team

Student Recruitment and Admissions (SRA) leads the design, development and implementation of the University of Edinburgh’s strategy for student recruitment, admissions, and widening participation.SRAis one of a number of key services within the University Secretary’s Group (USG).We contribute to two core University strategies: the Student Recruitment Strategy and the Widening Participation Strategy.
