Location: Barrow-in-Furness 2/3 days per week.

We are seeking one or two experienced Support Engineers to join a high-impact team working on a major UK defence programme. This is a long-term opportunity focused on the production phase of a next-generation assets, with a dedicated scope over the next three years.
Role Overview
As a Support Engineer, you will be responsible for verifying, assuring, and reviewing all maintenance and repair procedures for submarine systems-from nuclear reactor components to general propulsion and mechanical systems. You will also contribute to the creation and refinement of workshop manuals and guides used by naval operators.
This is a hands-on, technically demanding role requiring deep operational insight into submarine systems. You’ll be part of a 20-person maintenance team within a larger 100-person engineering group, reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse system designs and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and maintainability.
- Provide ex-operator insight into maintenance derivation and task analysis.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support maintenance design.
- Contribute to bids, proposals, and project planning activities.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Former Royal Navy experience, minimum rank of Petty Officer.
- Submarine operations and maintenance background.
- Strong understanding of submarine engine systems and their interactions.
- Ability to analyse complex engineering problems.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with ILS, MoD standards, and safety protocols.
- Systems engineering experience (training can be provided).
