Sustainable Talent have engaged exclusively with a leading provider of construction and engineering services within the power transmission and distribution sector. They have successfully delivered major projects for National Grid and other clients, such as substation upgrades, transformer replacements, battery energy storage systems (BESS).
HV Electrical Project Engineer is required to:
General Role Purpose
The Project Engineer (PE) assists the Project Manager (PM) in all activities concerned with the design and engineering of projects, including procurement, quality and delivery. They plan, organise, lead, coordinate and controls all activities concerned with the design and procurement of the Engineering of Projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for the refinement of an engineering construction project plan and leads its organization, scheduling, and implementation. They are a key point of contact with the client for engineering interfacing and are to build and create strong, assertive, and positive relationships.
Project Engineer Responsibilities
As a Project Engineer they shall act as the face of engineering to the customer/employer/client, and, in conjunction with the project team, will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project:
Project Start-Up:
- Attend handover of project from estimating department to construction/Engineering team
- Liaise with the Lead Project Engineer (LPE) in staffing of the project
- Familiarisation of project through review of Project specific specs, ER s, programme, etc. in line with the client s Process
- Liaise with client and design team on procurement and engineering issues.
- Manage the RFI/TQ list on BIM360 to all parties.
Pre-Construction Phase:
- Support the Project Manager and Planner in the refinement of the Pre-Construction Programme in line with dates and durations on Contract Programme
- Ordering of Long Lead items in line with programme requirements ensuring timely delivery to site
- Manage the Employer s expectations in relation to deliverable submission timelines
- Attend internal progress meetings and meetings with Clients
- Weekly internal meeting
- Design review fortnightly with Client & Consultant and alternate fortnight with Consultant
- Liaise with the design consultant and management their design submissions
- Technically review the design submissions from the design consultants. In conjunction with the LPE, utilise the experience on the wider project engineering team where necessary to ensure a comprehensive review is undertaken
- Hold regular progress meetings with vendors of HV equipment to ensure any queries/delays are dealt with at an early stage
- Project Engineer required to have a good commercial mindset and monitor and report any differences in Tender quotes to quotes received from Vendors to PM/LPE
- Advise Project Manager/LPE in good time of any potential project risks
- Contribute to any Early Warnings (EW) and/or Risk Reduction Meetings (RRM)
- Ensure any routine / factory acceptance tests are scheduled and appropriately attended.
Project Construction Phase:
- Manage the RFI/TQ list on BIM360 to all parties
- Ensure any comments from the Employers document portal (Viewpoint) are applied to the drawings before they become IFC
- Continuous communication with the consultant s design team on programme, RFI/TQ, spec/scope change etc.
- Lead engineering meetings with Client
- Attend commercial meetings with Client
- Contribute to any Early Warnings (EW) and/or Risk Reduction Meetings (RRM)
Project Completion:
- Ensure final design audit (if applicable) is carried out.
- Handover O&M manual and record drawings
- Archive project
- Maintain contact with client for warranty period and thereafter when retention monies are collected
