Manufacturing engineer is required to join this well established repairs and manufacturing business in Dundee

Manufacturing Engineer – Dundee
£32-35,000 plus attractive package

I am excited to be working for a large repair and re-manufacturing client of ours in the Dundee area and help them source the services of a manufacturing/production engineer.

Overall Purpose:

To support the business to deliver a safe and efficient service through effective delivery of Production Engineering capability. Contribute towards the businesses ongoing effort to enhance existing procedures, monitor, and manage workflow and processes between creation and delivery, reducing the risk of stoppages and increasing quality, and work as a go between the Engineering and Production departments in the business.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

The primary role of this position is ensuring continued product quality and business efficiency through development of robust and efficient processes. Additional duties may be included that are not stated above at the discretion of the Operations Control – Senior Manager.

  • Develop and monitor First Pass Yield KPI to determine opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain fault diagnostic tools to support the process control process.
  • Lead and facilitate investigation of all failures not covered by a fault diagnostic tool and feedback on all lessons learnt into the fault diagnostic tools.
  • Produce process maps for technical processes evolving these into PFMEA’s inline with the priorities identified through First Pass Yield.
  • Lead and facilitate process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for technical processes.
  • Lead and facilitate the creation of value stream maps of product flow identifying the value add/ nonvalue add steps in order to identify opportunities for waste reduction.
  • Work with production and planning to deliver a continuous improvement campaign which will reduce or remove waste from product flows.
  • Maintain reports, records, and production documentation.
  • Lead and/ or facilitate problem-solving activities as required by the business.
  • Seek to automate all reports and tools where possible.
  • Represent Operations during the NPI process to ensure that the designed repair is fit for production.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders.



    • Relevant contacts in relation to Key Responsibilities:

    Internal stakeholders are :

  • Quality – involvement in NCR investigation
  • Operations – First Pass Yield KPI Process control and process mapping
  • Laboratory – Support with process mapping and process control
  • All other areas – facilitation of problem-solving and/ or root cause analysis activities

    The candidate selected for this position will be experienced in their role (5 + years in a similar role) with a relevant qualification or approval by the Operations Control Senior Manager and will have direct relevant experience in an industrial/aero/ manufacturing environment.

    Person Specification – Skills & Knowledge:

    The candidate selected for this position will be:

  • Degree / HND qualification or completion of an apprenticeship. (an understanding of engineering would be beneficial – but not essential.)
  • Trained in root cause analysis.
  • Training in process improvement techniques.
  • Experience facilitating and managing change initiatives.

    • Advantageous:

  • Aerospace or gas turbine component repair experience.
  • Technical knowledge of tools and special processes.
  • Technical knowledge or experience of metallurgy.
  • LEAN / continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  • Yellow/ Green belt in Six Sigma
  • Training in statistical process control
  • Embraces technological developments.

    • Basically, our customer is looking for a very methodical individual who can come up with different solutions/outcomes to potential failures within the process, and be able to identify these faults and come up with preventive measures to minimise or stop the faults occurring again in the form of a process that allows the engineers to understand this process to follow once the failure occurs.
