Experienced Transport Planner required to support local council roads team in East Lothian

Your new company

Your new company is a prestigious public sector organisation based in Midlothian which plays a critical role in supporting their local communities. With exciting plans to review, plan and deliver upgrades and maintenance across the local network. They are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified transport planner to head up several projects on a long-term temp basis. This role will be to support the existing team in delivering projects ranging from pedestrian, cycling and motor projects.

Your new role

Working within the organisation, your role will be to plan, analyse and execute a multitude of projects ranging from planning applications to parking reviews. As a transport planner, you will play a key part of the support and planning of capital projects by the council. This includes being responsible for budgets and the allocation of spending. Working as part of the wider Roads Team with an opportunity for flexible working, this role requires work a high level of communication and a deep understanding of Transport Planning within the public sector.

What you’ll need to succeed

The ideal candidate would be an experienced individual, ideally for public sector planning and transport roles. Ideally, holding a background in civil engineering or similar (HNC minimum). You will have strong IT and communication skills and understand how to operate professionally within a public sector environment. Your role will liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders such as your strategic managers and members of the local community, so a problem-solving mindset is essential.
