This Doors Open Day, we’re reimagining the tradition of public proclamations at the Mercat Cross with a playful 21st-century twist.

The Drum Estate in Gilmerton is home to a replica of Edinburgh’s historic Mercat Cross, once the place where big news was shared with the city. We’re inviting local content creators, vloggers, and livestreamers to step into the role of today’s “town criers” by going live from the Cross and sharing their voice with their audiences.

It’s a chance to be part of a unique, one-off event that blends heritage with digital culture, and to put your own stamp on a centuries-old tradition.

Please note this is a volunteer opportunity – we can’t offer payment, but we can offer you a fun and memorable experience, some great content for your channel, and the chance to be part of something that connects history with the present in a fresh way.
